Task 1 of the goals contract

Task 1 in IFSTTAR’s goals contract for 2013-2016 sets out to make transportation systems more environmentally friendly, safer, and more appropriate for the transport of persons and goods. This aim of making transport more sustainable and more responsible has generated four major research goals:

  • R-1A: To observe and analyse practices as regards the mobility and transport of persons and goods, as well as techniques for forecasting the mobility and transport of tomorrow;
  • R-1B: To improve transport safety and comfort and minimize health impacts;
  • R-1C: To manage, optimize and evaluate transport systems;
  • R-1D: To develop innovative mobility and transport policies, solutions and services.

One of the strengths of this task is that it combines the Engineering Sciences, the Human Sciences, the Social Sciences and Life Sciences in order to observe transport systems, travel behaviours and practices, to design or evaluate implementations of new technology and transport services and to develop models for the more efficient and more sustainable management of large transport systems.

Appraisal and planning information 2015

IFSTTAR’s research and development programme was approved by its Scientific Council on 17 March 2015 :

By their nature, the research topics covered by IFSTTAR are cross-cutting and multidisplinary. Research also needs initiatives and trials in order to develop innovative ideas. This is why IFSTTAR has put in place cross-cutting activities and incentivized programmes.

The incentivised arrangements that are part of IFSTTAR’s own research programme or that which is run jointly with CEREMA are as follows :

  • GERI IFSTTAR Research and Discussion Groups
  • ORSI Strategic and Incentivized Research Operations
  • R2i IFSTAAR Incentivized Research
