Laboratory: GeoEND (Geophysics &  Non Destructive Testing)

Position Description :

The successful candidate will actively participate in the research project SR2S (https://sr2s.ifsttar.fr/) managed by the GeoEND laboratory and devoted  to high resolution seismic reflection techniques in order to image targets at depths of 30 to 400 m. The other partners in this project are the following organizations: TOTAL ; ORANO-Mining ; CEA/DAM.

The aim of the project is to propose technological and methodological developments for the transfer of the well-known method from oil exploration to sub-surface scales by involving suitable tools such as P and S sources, three component receivers…etc.

The project is running since 2018 and several measurement campaigns have been conducted for different field sites by using P and S sources from 25 kg to 8 tons.

The candidate will participate in methodological developments, field acquisition of data, pre-processing and imaging process, as well as the results valuation, through  reports and scientific articles publications.

The position is proposed over a period of 18 months from January 2020.

Required profile:

The candidate should be comfortable with seismic methods and have solid experience in this field. In particular, an actual experiment in the field of seismic reflection at the scales of oil engineering or near surface and a strong practical knowledge of seismic reflection software will be sought.

Experiences in other areas of seismic (seismic transmission, seismic refraction), or, at least, a theoretical knowledge of these subjects and a desire to deepen them, will also be appreciated. Programming skills will be an added advantage.

The candidate will have qualities for both self-employment and teamwork, as well as a taste for both office and field work. He or she will be comfortable writing reports and publications in both French and English. He or she must have a PhD in one of the scientific fields mentioned.

Our Institute:

The GeoEND laboratory is located near Nantes and is part of G. Eiffel University. The GeoEND laboratory deals with the auscultation of soils and structures by geophysical methods and / or of non-destructive control, at various scales of the civil engineering (auscultation of the subsoil by seismic methods, radar and geo-electric, acoustic auscultation of concretes or bridge cables). It is part of the GERS department which deals with Geosciences in general and includes 6 laboratories (3 focused on Geotechnics, 1 on seismic risk, 1 on water in soils and 1 on Geophysics and NDT).

Information and Application:

Applications should include an application/motivation letter, emphasizing your specific interest and motivation, a detailed CV (resume), a publication list, contact details of referees. An interview and a scientific presentation will be part of the selection procedure.
