In the course of their work, IFSTTAR’s researchers implement advanced scientific knowledge in software or simulations. The programs in question handle complex concepts and are potentially good vehicles for scientific dissemination. The preferred strategy for achieving our knowledge dissemination goal is to release IFSTTAR’s programs as open-source software. As IFSTTAR is aware that open-source software has become a necessity, whether in the academic world or in the industrial and service sectors, and more generally in society at large, the Institute intends to expand its activities in this area. The initial aim is to encourage the sharing and reutilization of developments, then to organize and manage communities of users/contributors with an interest in the building blocks that have been developed.

Ultimately, it will be possible to access a variety of tools through a dedicated “digital productions” portal whose function will be to make IFSTTAR’s open source software and datasets available. This portal is still under construction.
