IFSTTAR’s concern with targeted research involves its researchers in a wide variety of scientific activities - observations, measurements, data logging, modelling and simulation, surveys, etc.

IFSTTAR can provide specific experimental facilities for this purpose: major facilities and large-scale trial zones.

During the test campaigns and trials, the researchers collect large volumes of “raw” data which are structured, organized and supplemented by “enhanced” and “derived data” in its databases.

These databases play an essential role in scientific research. They enable IFSTTAR to act as a monitoring centre for certain phenomena, but they are also indispensable for the evaluation of algorithms, systems or simulations. They are mainly used as in-house research tools, but, like software, they may be disseminated via a variety of strategies. They are also encapsulated within the software that exploits them.
